After a year of work the Mongolian Environmental Emergency Response Service (NGO) has become a reality. The new team has received the support of the international rescue community.

The Founding Chairperson is Madison Naidan.  She is an accomplished third year Criminal Law student and Founder of Mongolia's first National Legal Aid Service. Canadian born, David Pottier, will serve as the team's first Vice-Chairman. An innovator and futurist in the rescue field, Commander Pottier brings a life time of training, domestic and international rescue experience and rescue system command and design skills to the team. Some of his areas of expertise include Logistics and Supply, Communications and Command Structure for Land, Sea and Air Rescue Operations. He is the founder of the Canadian based TEERS-International. TEERS-Canada, with support from the Canadian Space Agency, was the first rescue team in history to use advanced satellite imagery in rescue operations.

The team will build 22 provincial chapters or units. Members will be known as the Mongolian Rangers and Junior Rangers will be created and trained within the school system.

Darkhan Reforestation Project

Rescue Chief writes

In the faint orange morning light the countryside is both beautiful and silent. When day breaks the frighteningly clear blue Mongolian skies dominate heavens over Darkhan. Situated in the North Western part of Mongolia close to the Russian Border it is the second largest city and coldest city in Mongolia.

In a 10 year span -1985 to 1995 - the equivalent of 65 years worth of tree growth were lost. Of the 73,600 hectares of forest destroyed during that period, only about 10 percent were destroyed by fire. Our project goal is to reforest 500 hectares or about 500,000 trees.

Note: Our goal: To create a model forest as an ongoing educational project where each child is given 12 trees to plant and care for. The children then own those trees and become responsible for them for life. The trees are being planted in an effort to help reduce the harmful effects of carbon dioxide emissions in the Darkhan area and under the Kyoto Accord.
